🤝 Committee Update: EGM feedback and next steps
Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughtful feedback following the recent EGM; your expertise and care for the club’s future are greatly appreciated.
The committee takes all your concerns seriously – including site security, water safety, protecting our freehold, and space-sharing logistics – and we are committed to doing everything we can to safeguard the club.
Please rest assured that the EGM vote merely authorised us to proceed with discussions and does not lock us into moving. We as a committee will meet on August 17th to review where things stand and evaluate whether the Council’s proposals adequately resolve or mitigate these issues. In the meantime, please continue to share any further thoughts with us, and we look forward to seeing you on the water soon.
🏊 Pool Sessions & Trips: Dive into something new
A reminder that our indoor pool sessions are every first Saturday of the month, and aren’t just for learning how to roll! They are the perfect, warm environment to practice support strokes, get comfortable being upside down in the water, or even practice swimming with your paddle.
Once you’ve built up your confidence, check out the explore courses listed in the calendar at the bottom of our webpage, or sign up via the Spond app for our upcoming Introduction to Whitewater trip this August.
🩹 Managing Medical Stuff: Keeping everyone safe on the water
Your safety is our top priority, which is why we highly recommend reviewing Paddle UK’s latest guidance on Paddlesafer
and Managing Medical Conditions in Paddlesports.
On a practical note, please make sure your name and emergency contact details are clearly labelled on all your personal equipment. If your kit ever floats away, it allows the authorities to quickly verify that you are safe and sound ashore rather than triggering a false emergency search! We highly recommend using durable labels from Tough Tags to keep your gear identifiable.
🏔️ French Alps Trip: A roaring success!
Our recent whitewater trip to the French Alps offered the ultimate summer adventure with a perfect challenge for everyone. Paddlers tackled continuous grade 3/4 rivers and slalom courses, balanced with gentler “bambling” stretches to breathe easy and soak in the stunning alpine backdrop.
The off-water action was just as spectacular, featuring post-paddling beers in the sunshine as we loaded boats, lake swimming, ice cream eating, and an epic cheese fondue by Ted! A few photos below.

Fri 18th – Sun 20th Sea Trip (UK)📍Anglesey
Note from Simon, our Sea Officer:
“I have just spent a great weekend in Anglesey with Portsmouth Canoe Club that included rock hopping, big swell and tide races, all under the watchful eye of excellent advanced sea kayak leaders. If there is sufficient interest (between 8-16 paddlers) I will organise a trip for us. The trip would be open to paddlers from novice (some sea experience) to advanced on a 1:4 coaching ratio. The coaching would be provided by Sea Kayaking UK Adventures (www.skukadventures.com) at a cost £200pp. Accommodation would be at the Anglesey Outdoor Centre where we could camp or book out a bunkhouse to ourselves (not included in the above price).
I am looking at the weekend of 19/20th September 2026. This may seem like very advance planning but both accommodation and coaches will get booked up once we get into the New Year. It is at least a 5.5hr drive so we would travel up on the Friday.
I will create an event in Spond so please accept it if you want to go. We can then secure everything with a deposit in January.”
