Hello there paddlers! Although the weather hasn’t caught up yet, we are rapidly moving through autumn and heading towards Winter.
🛶 Saturday & Sunday (09.15 arrival, on the water for 10.00) – Paddle up to Hurley, or down to The Bounty, and back. Remember water, your own flask and snack, warm layers and a good cag. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for updates on river conditions and potential cancellations.

❄️ Cold Water Shock – Prevention Through Preparation
Despite record paddlesport participation, cold water shock remains a primary cause of accidental drownings in the UK’s typically sub-15°C waters. This infographic from Paddle UK provides techniques on how to manage the body’s involuntary physical response during those first critical seconds of immersion:

🍂Autumn Colours Paddle – Saturday 7 November 2026.
Check out our FB page for details of our annual paddle to Boulters Lock to admire Mother Nature at her most colourful. If the sun shows its face the trees will wear their golden fleece.
🎇Marlow Fireworks Display🔥
On Friday 6th November Marlow Sports Club will host the Marlow Monster Fireworks. In order to ensure a safe environment for the event we need to ‘lock down’ the site from 5pm. This means there will be no access or parking at the site from 5pm (except for agreed volunteers).
Marlow Sports Club has made a late request for volunteers to help behind the bar and serve food at their fireworks display on Friday. You will get free entry, a drink and a burger and the chance to watch the fireworks. You would need to arrive in time for a briefing at 5.30pm in the beer tent and have a charged smartphone to take payments. Should be finished by 9 latest.

🧢Hats, Hats more Hats & Kit

We still have a good supply of hats, essential winter wear. You can purchase these through membermojo.
Also, Tim Ward has kit that has been donated by ex members – BAs, spraycovers, kit bags, dry bags, pogies etc. He will be setting it out on a table in the main kit container and is just asking for a donation to club funds for any items taken.
🪚Hedge Cutting🌲
On 7th and then either the 14th or 21st of November, depending on the weather, our neighbours’ hedge in the back car park will be cut over. Half of the hedge will be cut at each session.
A scaffolding tower will be in place and some of the car park will be cordoned off on each occasion to allow the work to be completed.

🥽Pool Sessions
The river is cold but the indoor pool is toasty. Don’t forget that on the first Saturday every month we run pool sessions at Chalfont. Book your slot on membermojo.
👥 Committee Roles:
This is a great club because of its volunteers. Several committee members will stand down at our AGM in February, and we’re thankful for all their hard work. So we’re looking for fresh faces and new ideas.
We need a Treasurer (budget and accounts, with help from our accountants), a Secretary (admin and meetings), a Coaching Officer (coaching programme, club coaches and bursaries) and a New Members lead (first contact and bookings for Discover sessions and paddle assessments). Most urgently, our Media role (communications, website and social media) is available now!
You don’t need any specialist knowledge, just a willingness to help with admin, organisation and problem solving. Committee meetings are 2 hours every other month, plus 1–2 hours a week depending on the role. Give as much or as little as you can. Ideas for streamlining tasks are welcome too.
Volunteering is a great way to pay forward the opportunities we all had to get into kayaking. You’ll build skills for your CV and help shape the club’s future, including the move back to Marlow Bridge. Plus there’s the smug satisfaction of being an awesome person. 😎 To find out more, get in touch at chair@marlowcc.org.uk.
👥 Club relocation Update
The Council has withdrawn its proposal to move the Club to Gossmore Park. It found that the Gossmore Park option would cost hundreds of thousands of pounds more than Marlow Bridge. That’s well over the Council’s budget and not good value for council taxpayers. So, in line with the 2024 EGM decision and our existing agreement with the Council, the Club will return to Marlow Bridge.
Planning permission is already in place. Our next step is to sign off the internal layout, materials and fixtures. Completion is now expected in August/September 2027. The Council has agreed to give us monthly updates on the schedule until handover, so we can keep the project on track.
🗳️ AGM 2027: Monday 1 February 🗓️
Our AGM will be at 7.30pm on Monday 1 February 2027, at a venue to be confirmed. It’s your chance to hear how the year has gone, have your say on the club’s plans, including the move back to Marlow Bridge, and elect the new committee.
If you’d like to put forward a motion, email it to the Club Secretary at secretary@marlowcc.org.uk by Saturday 2 January 2027, at least 30 days before the meeting. Each motion needs to be signed by 5 members who are entitled to vote.
We’ll confirm the venue and send the formal notice and agenda at least 21 days before the meeting. See you there!
