🚣 Nov-Dec 2025 ❄️

Hello there paddlers!

Hope you’ve been enjoying those golden autumn colours on the river. Sessions continue to run to our winter schedule:

❄️ SATURDAYS & SUNDAYS (09.15 arrival, on the water for 10.00) – Paddle up to Hurley, or down to The Bounty, and back. Remember water, your own flask and snack. ❄️

Keep an eye on the Facebook page for updates on river conditions and potential cancellations.

🛶 Bridgeworks Update – EGM Coming January 2026

Thanks so much for your patience as we navigate the ongoing bridgeworks. We promise we’re not keeping secrets – conversations and negotiations are still in motion, and as soon as there’s solid news, you’ll be the first to know!

We’re planning an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) in January 2026 to discuss the future of our clubhouse (and possible new locations). If we do return under Marlow Bridge, this likely won’t be until September 2026. More details to follow.

Here’s a PDF with all the latest on our clubhouse updates – including the improvements we’ve made to our temporary base and our (projected!) timeline for what’s next.

🗳️ AGM Motions Due 2nd January – AGM on 2nd February 2026

A quick reminder for anyone wanting to raise a motion for the Annual General Meeting (AGM), they must be submitted to the Secretary (Susan) by 2nd January 2026. The AGM itself will be held on Monday 2nd February 2026.

We’ve got open positions on the Committee for Touring and Freestyle representatives – so if you’ve got ideas, energy, and enthusiasm, drop our Chair (Alex) a line. And if you think you could outshine one of us in another role – Media, Welfare, Treasurer… – go ahead and put your name forward!

❄️ Winter Paddling – Stay Warm Through November & Beyond!

Our club sessions continue right through the winter — but the gear you wear makes all the difference. Paddle UK has a great guide on Winter Paddling Clothing, and now’s the time to start layering up. Remember, cold water shock becomes a risk below 15°C (the Thames is currently 14°C).

Wicking base layers, snug buoyancy aids, and waterproof shells are your best friends. If you’re unsure what to wear, ask your DO for advice before heading out.

🎅 Christmas Social – Saturday 13th December

Mark those diaries! We’ll be getting festive at Marlow Sports Club on Saturday 13th December for our Christmas Social. Expect good food, good company, and plenty of laughs as we wrap up another fantastic year on the water. More details coming soon.

🎉 50 Paddle Challenge!

To celebrate 50 years of Marlow Canoe Club, we’re launching the 50 Paddle Challenge! From July 2025 to July 2026, we want to record 50 unique paddle trips from our members – one paddle per person, anywhere in the world.

Whether it’s a peaceful Thames glide or an overseas expedition, we want your story on the water. The top 50 paddles will feature in a commemorative book and be showcased at our 50th anniversary social in summer 2026.
