🥳 Midweek sessions: Spring paddling returns April 7th

Dust off your spraydecks! Our spring midweek sessions kick off on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th April. We know the riverbanks have been a little swamp-like lately, so if you’ve been avoiding the “disgusting” mud since last summer, we don’t blame you… much.

To help everyone transition back into the flow, Ian will be leading a dedicated “Get Back To Paddling” session. This will be a steady-paced, low-pressure outing perfect for finding your balance again without the stress of keeping up with the speedsters. We can’t wait to see you back on the water!

🙏 Volunteer as a DO: Help us keep sessions running

No Duty Officer = No Session. We are currently looking for more volunteers to join the DO roster. We aren’t asking for a massive monthly commitment; even volunteering for one or two sessions a season makes a HUGE difference in keeping the club running safely.

If you aren’t DO trained yet but want to help, we’d love to have you! Please reach out to Chloe, our Coaching Officer, at coaching@marlowcc.org.uk to express your interest. Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming DO Training course dates. It’s a great way to give back to the club and ensure we all get our time on the river!

🌉 Location update: Latest on the Marlow Bridgeworks

Thank you all for your ongoing patience as we navigate the complexities of the Marlow Bridgeworks. We are currently waiting for a formal written proposal regarding an alternative permanent location. If this goes ahead, we are aiming for a move around March 2027.

If, instead, we move back to our original spot under Marlow Bridge, this is more likely to happen sooner – around October of this year. We know the uncertainty isn’t ideal, but we are working hard behind the scenes to secure the best long-term outcome for the club. We will share more concrete details as soon as that formal proposal hits our inbox.

🦺 Safety first: Check your kit and our policies

When was the last time you checked your buoyancy aid for foam degradation? Or changed your helmet? Now is the perfect time for a kit refresh before the season hits full swing.

Beyond physical gear, we are currently reviewing our club safety policies. We want feedback from everyone, not just the veterans. Whether you joined last year or twenty years ago, your perspective on our Health and Safety Manual, Duty Officer Policy, and Generic Risk Assessment is incredibly valuable. Please take a look at the links and send Ted your thoughts.

🎉 Our 50th! – Get entries in for the 50 Paddle Challenge

Fri 18th – Sun 20th Sea Trip (UK)📍Anglesey

Note from Simon, our Sea Officer:

“I have just spent a great weekend in Anglesey with Portsmouth Canoe Club that included rock hopping, big swell and tide races, all under the watchful eye of excellent advanced sea kayak leaders. If there is sufficient interest (between 8-16 paddlers) I will organise a trip for us. The trip would be open to paddlers from novice (some sea experience) to advanced on a 1:4 coaching ratio. The coaching would be provided by Sea Kayaking UK Adventures (www.skukadventures.com) at a cost £200pp. Accommodation would be at the Anglesey Outdoor Centre where we could camp or book out a bunkhouse to ourselves (not included in the above price).

I am looking at the weekend of 19/20th September 2026. This may seem like very advance planning but both accommodation and coaches will get booked up once we get into the New Year. It is at least a 5.5hr drive so we would travel up on the Friday.

I will create an event in Spond so please accept it if you want to go. We can then secure everything with a deposit in January.”
