βοΈWinter Paddling Clothing
If you’re new to the Club and don’t have much kit yet, there is no need to spend a fortune – basic beanies, leggings and tops from Decathlon/Tesco will do the job. For layers like cags and neoprene leggings, specialist kayak products are best, but worth asking around first – often best to shop around the online retailers. For more advice, head to British Canoeingβs article, Winter Paddling Clothing: What to wear for paddling in winter
β οΈRed, Yellow and Brown(!!) Boards
We paddle throughout all seasons, and encourage everyone (newbies and pros alike!) to continue to come along to our weekly sessions.
As we move into winter, however, we can expect heavier flows, which may lead to a change of plan – keep an eye on the Facebook page – or for conditions to become that bit too challenging to be fun. As paddlers, we are all responsible for our own decisions and safety, so it is worth trying to understand the river flow gauges.
Finally, do check Thames Water’s online π© “poop” map showing where they are currently discharging sewage, to avoid practising skills that could result in a mouthful of “tasty” water…
