Safeguarding Policy

Marlow Canoe Club is fully committed to safeguarding the well being of its members. All members should show respect and understanding for the rights, safety and welfare of others and conduct themselves in a way that reflects the principles of the club.

We believe that taking part in paddlesport should be a positive and enjoyable part of everyone’s lives and to achieve this have the following aims:

  • Club coaches, helpers and officials should follow the British Canoeing Code of Ethics.
  • All club coaches, helpers and officials working with members should read and adhere to the British Canoeing Safeguarding Children Policy and Safeguarding Adults Policy. The club will follow the guidance issued by the British Canoeing in the event of any concerns or allegations.
  • The club will ensure that anyone working with young people undertakes an appropriate screening procedure.
  • All club members are asked to read and adhere to the Marlow Canoe Club code of conduct.
  • The club will obtain written consent from parents/carers for junior members to participate in club activities including medical details which will be made known to coaches/leaders/organisers where deemed appropriate and/or necessary.
  • The club will encourage and support coaches, leaders and helpers to gain appropriate qualifications and assist coaches to stay up-dated.
  • Anyone with concerns with respect to abuse or harassment should contact the Marlow Canoe Club Welfare Officer or Chairperson in the first instance. If neither the Welfare Officer or Chairperson is available or the concerns relate to either of these officers they should contact the British Canoeing safeguarding officer.
  • The club has adopted and regularly reviews a health and safety policy
  • The club will review this policy annually.
